Episode 53 Your 5 Keys to Happiness

A few months ago, over a period of 5 weeks, we published a series called, 5 Keys to Happiness in Retirement.  Based on the feedback we received, we decided to provide you with an abridged version of the 5 Keys regardless of your retirement status.  You may consider yourself too young to think about retirement, or you’re thinking about retirement and started planning or you’re well into retirement but can appreciate a few pointers anyway.

Happiness is the best state of being for all of us.

Have you ever noticed that there are certain people who seem to be happy and in control all the time?  It seems as if stressful situations bounce off them rather than knock them down.  Do you want to be one of them?

Episode 52 Women of the Church with Pastor Doris Simpson

How many women do you know with the deep understanding of their faith as well as with the ability to communicate their knowledge with us in a comfortable and easy manner?

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re exploring various positions women hold in church leadership.  I grew up in a Baptist Church and as child I was accustomed to seeing only men as pastors of the churches in my local area.  Times have certainly changed. It is now commonplace for women to be pastors of churches.

It is my honor to discuss some of the leadership roles of women in churches, with our guest Pastor Doris Simpson, from Polished After the Furnace International Ministries, located at 1230 Blountstown Street, Tallahassee FL

Pastor Simpson was born and raised in Perry Fl.  She is the mother of five and grandmother to two.  She was called into ministry in 2003 as a Prophetess.  In 2018, she was given the vision for Polished After the Furnace International Ministries.

Additionally, she is the owner of:  CosMe The Experience (hair salon), Paideia Academy (private school), and Accurate Collection (drug screening).

Episode 45 Choose Joy with Babs Plunkett

When was the last time you felt joyful? What have you done recently that’s contributed to your happiness?

Babs Plunkett is a passionate advocate for positive aging. To help herself and others live joyfully, she became a Life Coach and Certified Professional Retirement Coach. As the best-selling author of Choose Joy: Three Keys to Investing Your Time in Retirement, she interviewed over 100 people across the country, gaining their inspiration and insights on positive aging.

Babs said, “The original source of my passion for aging well was my crabby grandma who moved in with us when I was 13 years old and her unhappy presence made a lifelong impression on me.”

For the next four decades, Babs studied positive aging and paid attention to people who chose joy. She asked those who were living joyfully if they had always been that way. Were they upbeat as a kid or did they decide to be positive? Babs has indicated that she felt genuine relief to learn we’re not destined to crabbiness. Aging well is a choice. We can choose joy.

Episode 44 Pat Stanford’s Fixing Boo Boo and Proverbs of My Seasons

Pat Stanford was born in Philadelphia. Her farming family moved to Delray Beach, Florida when she was one, looking for year-round growing seasons. She lived there until a brief stint in the Air Force took her to California.

She graduated Florida State University with a B.S.in Secondary Education, which was never used for its intended purpose. She has poetry published in several anthologies and won second place in the 2004 Seven Hills Contest with her short story, Divorce Sale. Her book, Fixing Boo Boo, is a slightly fictionalized account of what happens when a brain-injured sibling comes to live with a sister who doesn’t know what that means.

After being introduced to growing roses by her father, Pat created her own rose garden. She served as President of the local rose society and is a bronze medal recipient with the American Rose Society.

Pat lives in Tallahassee, Florida with her husband and a quirky cat, and is currently working on a follow-up to Fixing Boo Boo as well as a novel set in Mongolia.  Pat has two books of poetry: Proverbs of My Seasons Poetry of Transition and A Motley Miscellany Misfit Poems that Fit Together. You can find all of Pat’s books at Amazon www.amazon.com or Documeant Publishing www.Documeantpublishing.com
