Episode 82 Yes, You Belong!

COVID 19 really impacted our feelings of belongingness!

While we were able to ZOOM ourselves to video conferencing fatigue, nothing could replace the joy of face-to-face interactions.  Especially, if touch was involved.

Who knew how much we would miss a personal greeting with a kiss on the cheek or a hug.  Touch deprivation is a horrible thing!

On the other hand, when our world started to open again, we were flooded with gratitude over the ability to do simple things, such as meet a couple of friends for lunch or spend an afternoon with grandchildren.

What did you do the first time you left home after the lock down?  Email me at [email protected] and let me know.

It’s amazing that a year ago we were watching professional tennis with no fans in the stands and now we can see packed stadiums for both college and professional football games.  Many people are there for their individual love of football, yet others are there because of the warm feeling of belonging.

Episode 75 In Case You Missed It-Sue Healy’s Story to Tell

Sue Healy is a 73-year-old belly dancer.  That may seem incongruous, but Sue says, “I don’t care.  I am not wasting any time getting on with my life.”

Tallahassee has been her home since she came to Florida State University as a freshman 56 years ago.  Sue grew up on a small farm near the edge of the Everglades, in Miami. Her mother taught her to draw and be self-reliant.  Her father taught her how things worked and how to write.  In addition to being a dancer, I she is a painter, a gardener, a writer, an editor, and most importantly, she is fearless.

Sue’s strengths helped save her when she was diagnosed with metastatic cancer three years ago.  She had a horrendous surgery, daily chemo and radiation and spent two months in the hospital.  When she could not walk, she dreamed of dancing again and made it happen. The day she was discharged she went to the gym with her hot pink glitter walker and climbed on the treadmill.

Sue said, “Cancer taught me how many friends I have, how to let go of pride and accept help, what is really important, and how strong my mind and faith really are.”

Sue’s outlook on life is be healthy, happy and strong and embrace change as another metamorphosis.
