Episode 127 What Will You Do When Your Aging Parents Ask to Live with You?

I saw a statistic recently, that stated 52% of young adults currently live with their parents.  While that stat seems high it is not surprising.  Intergenerational households are becoming more common, partly due to economic pressures and longer life spans.

When I was growing up, my parents and maternal grandparents’ houses were next door to each other.  At times it felt as if we all lived under the same roof.  I loved it!  There were wonderful opportunities for bonding with my grandparents.

Sometimes, our intergenerational blending happened because our adult children moved back home with us including bringing their spouses and/or their own children too.  Younger Milestone Divas such as those of us in our 50s, 60s and some 70s are sandwiched between the returning adult children and the aging parents who are not ready or don’t want to move to a senior living community or nursing home.

We may feel more confident and in control with our children, but what do we do when our parents want to live with us?  That situation brings a whole new set of issues.  Primarily, financial and logistical as well as emotional and social.
