Our guest for this episode is Pat Spears the author of three novels and many short stories. Her third novel, Hotel Impala, was released on September 16, 2024.

Her second novel, It’s Not Like I Knew Her, which was released in 2016, received the bronze award for LGBTQ Fiction from Foreword Review. Her short stories have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. Her short story “Whelping” was a finalist for the Rash Award and appears in the 2014 issue of Broad River Review. She is a sixth generation Floridian and lives in Tallahassee, Florida with her partner, two dogs and one rabbit.

North Florida is full of writers with published books or manuscripts pending publication.  This series called, The Words They Write, features conversations with authors, publishers, writing coaches, and others in the literary world.

Our guest today, Joan Leggitt comes from generations of newspaper publishers.

  • Her great grandfather, David Washington Boliver, ran the Troy Enterprise in Troy, Texas
  • Her grandfather Edward C. Boliver owned and operated the Hedley Informer, in Donley County, Texas.
  • Her uncle, David Edward Boliver inherited his father’s newspaper and her mother Pauline Boliver Leggitt Links for references in this episode: spent many years helping David Edward produce the newspaper.  Alas, Joan has never published a newspaper.
